Catapults, dinosaur plants and volcanoes, oh my...

January has been a busy month at the Stevens' Zoo...here are a few of the projects we've worked on:

Keely built a catapult from the Knights Treasure Chest set, and found all sorts of interesting things to chuck with it...

Both the kiddos 'planted' their Dinosaur plants- these are plants of a variety that's been around since the dinos, but they've been dried, and wake up when you give them water. Our kind of plant- if you forget to water them for a week (or a month!), they dry up and patiently await a bit more water...

We also decided to give the National Geographic candy volcano a try...while it looked kinda cool, the candy was NASTY! Glad we got it at a thrift store... instead of paying full price!

Last week, we joined up with a group of other homeschoolers for a field trip to the Kenai airport. It was fun, especially the part where the kids got to ride the baggage carousel! (I think the grownups would have liked a turn too...)

Who knows what else we'll get up to before the month is over? Right now we're looking forward to the Peninsula Winter Games on Saturday, Imbolc on February 2nd, the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge family fun day on Feb 3rd, Chinese New Year on Feb. 18th, and of course Liam's birthday on the 22nd. February looks to be filling up quickly...

Love ya!
